Once every ten years, the world of stamp collecting converges on a single city for a celebration unlike any other. This month, that city is Boston, and the Boston 2026 World Stamp Expo (May 23–30, 2026) is shaping up to be the largest and most spectacular international philatelic exhibition in at least a decade.

What Is the Boston 2026 World Stamp Expo?
The Boston 2026 World Expo is the 12th International Philatelic Exhibition hosted in the United States. A tradition that dates back to New York City in 1913. Sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service and held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (415 Summer Street), the expo spans a jaw-dropping 352,000 square feet of exhibition space across eight full days.
Best of all? Admission is completely free. Online registration is recommended, however, as it grants access to the show's dedicated app with schedules and exhibitor maps.
Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday through Friday (May 23–29), and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on closing day, Saturday May 30.

Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary
Boston 2026 arrives at a deeply symbolic moment: the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. There's no better city to host a celebration of American history; the birthplace of the Revolution, home to Paul Revere's midnight ride and the lanterns of Old North Church.
The USPS has leaned into this history beautifully. Commemorative Forever stamps released in anticipation of the show feature an intaglio-printed depiction of Old North Church as it appeared during the Revolution, alongside a midnight rider on horseback; a nod to the city's legendary role in America's founding.
Special Highlights You Won't Want to Miss
New Stamp Ceremonies
The expo will host multiple first-day-of-issue ceremonies for new U.S. stamps, including Treasures of the Revolutionary Era at the opening ceremony on May 23, the American Bison stamp, and the International Peace stamp featuring an origami crane. There's also the highly anticipated Stamp Encore unveiling a mystery stamp chosen by over half a million public votes from 25 fan-favorite stamps issued in recent years. The winning design has been kept completely secret until the big reveal in Boston.
Eight Themed Daily Postmarks
The USPS has created a special series of eight daily themed postmarks for the expo unique keepsakes for collectors and cachet makers. Each features a themed circular design (including a Sports Day postmark with a soccer ball) above a "Boston 2026 World Expo" banner, hand-canceled at USPS booths throughout the show. Renowned stamp designer Chris Calle is also producing limited-edition official cachets inspired by each daily theme.
Queen Elizabeth II's Rolls-Royce
One of the most eye-catching surprises: when visitors enter the main exhibition hall, they'll be greeted by a stunning display of British philatelic culture anchored by a Phantom IV Rolls-Royce once owned by Queen Elizabeth II. This immersive "Context Philately" installation places stamps within their broader historical and cultural world. A true museum-quality experience, available for eight days only.
The National Postal Museum
The Smithsonian's National Postal Museum will have a full interactive booth with expert meet-and-greets, postcard writing activities, digital resources, and a "First-Class Fête" cocktail reception on May 24. Expert talks and giveaways round out their presence at the show.
LEGO Creations and Youth Activities
The New England LEGO Users Group (NELUG) will present original LEGO creations celebrating Boston landmarks and global mail history, with hands-on activities including a community mosaic and postcard crafts. For younger visitors (and parents hoping to inspire a new hobby), there are educational activities, show tours, Scout merit badge workshops for stamp and coin collecting, and incredibly, 5 million free stamps being given away to visitors.
For the Tech-Curious Collector
On May 27 from 4:00–5:00 p.m., a special session in Meeting Room 158 will bring together collectors building AI tools for philately from image recognition and auction analytics to catalog search and RAG systems. It's a fascinating glimpse at how the hobby is evolving with modern technology.
